The Buckingham Murders (2024)

The Buckingham Murders, directed by Hansal Mehta and produced by Kareena Kapoor Khan, Shobha Kapoor, and Ekta Kapoor, is an Indo-English crime thriller that intricately weaves grief, trauma, and the immigrant experience into its mystery. Set against the backdrop of Buckinghamshire, this film follows Kareena Kapoor Khan as a British-Indian detective, whose child’s murder continues to haunt her. She relocates to a new town, seeking a fresh start but ends up investigating another child’s murder, entwining her past with her present.

The movie begins at a slow pace, exploring the protagonist’s deep emotional and psychological struggles. While this may initially put off viewers expecting non-stop action, it pays off as the story builds to an unexpected and gripping climax.

Kareena Kapoor Khan’s performance is powerful, bringing depth to her character’s grief and determination. Ranveer Brar provides solid support, and their combined performances add authenticity and strength to the film. Hansal Mehta’s direction is thoughtful, capturing the film’s emotional weight and tension, although some key scenes could have been more impactful.

The cinematography captures the chilling setting of Buckinghamshire, adding to the atmosphere, and Aseem Arrora’s screenplay balances emotional depth with the crime mystery. Though the film features good technical execution, it does have minor pacing issues and an overly assertive background score at times.

Overall, The Buckingham Murders succeeds as a slow-burn thriller that delves into themes of loss, resilience, and closure. It might not revolutionize the genre, but it delivers an engaging story with standout performances.
